IMPLEMENT DESIGN STEWARDSHIP AS PART OF YOUR NEXT TRANSFORMATION

Reframing Design: Strategic Function + Potent Capability

For an organisation, Design Stewardship formalises your design posture and sets your direction in relation to how design is enacted across the organisation and with external partners. Design Stewardship is able be adopted by organisations of all types, sizes and modus operandi.

Implementing a Design Stewardship Framework is both formative and purposeful – it situates Design as a strategic function and elevates the potent capability of design – a synthesis geared to sustainably maximising innovational and operational capacity.

Kandure’s Design Stewardship Framework is comprised of one artefact and three documents. Via a three-stage approach, these components are able to designed and developed using the resources and ways of working as favoured by your organisation.

The Framework includes mapping your organisation’s design activities – no matter whether design is designated (enacted by designers), undesignated (enacted by other roles) or is a collaborative mix. Reframing ‘Design’ as a strategic function (as per Finance or Compliance) also means shaping the Design function with documented governance, tolerance and sustainability dimensions.

The Design Stewardship Framework is a response to the organic propagation of design thinking, human-centric design and co-design activities, as well as to the fragmentation of design specialisms and the pervasiveness of artifical intelligence (AI). Design Stewardship is an emerging practice, meaning open participation and support is key.
